Telangana Governor Calls for Awareness Campaigns on TB Eradication and Drug Abuse Prevention

Asifabad, May 29 (TNT): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Friday called for intensive awareness programmes at the grassroots level to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) and prevent drug abuse in Komuram Bheem Asifabad district.

Reviewing the implementation of government welfare schemes, healthcare services, Red Cross Society activities and TB eradication measures at the Integrated District Offices Complex (IDOC) in Asifabad, the Governor stressed the need for coordinated efforts to address public health and social challenges.

Addressing district officials, Shukla said government service was not merely a profession but a responsibility towards society.

He observed that social issues such as tuberculosis and drug abuse could be effectively tackled through sustained public awareness campaigns.

Expressing concern over the growing menace of synthetic drugs, the Governor said they posed a serious threat to society, particularly to the youth, and called for extensive awareness initiatives to prevent their spread.

He also underlined the need for non-governmental organisations and voluntary groups to work responsibly in the larger interest of society.

Highlighting the importance of nutritional support in the treatment of tuberculosis, Shukla suggested that district officials, voluntary organisations and social service groups adopt TB patients and provide them with nutritious food. He assured full support from Raj Bhavan for initiatives aimed at making the district TB-free.

The Governor urged officials to work collectively towards transforming Komuram Bheem Asifabad into a drug-free, TB-free and developed district.

Responding to the Governor’s suggestions, District Collector K. Haritha announced that the district administration would take responsibility for providing nutritional support to all 4,064 TB patients in the district.

She said the programme would be implemented with the cooperation of district officials, Red Cross members and voluntary organisations.

The Collector also stated that efforts would be intensified to expand membership in the Indian Red Cross Society and strengthen its activities across the district.

In recognition of her efforts in expanding Red Cross membership and activities, the Governor felicitated the District Collector with a special memento.
