India, Japan agree to begin Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train operations with Indian high-speed trains
New Delhi, July 17 (TNT): India and Japan have agreed to commence operations on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor with Indian high-speed trains, as discussions on the project continue to progress positively.
According to the agreement, Japan will provide its next-generation E10 series Shinkansen trains in the early 2030s. The E10 train is currently under development.
With civil construction advancing rapidly, the first section of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor is expected to become operational in 2027, Railways said in a release here on Friday..
Until the E10 trains are introduced, the two countries have agreed to begin commercial operations using Indian high-speed trainsets, enabling the project to become operational at the earliest.
The decision is in line with the shared objective of India and Japan to expedite the commissioning of the country’s first bullet train project while continuing cooperation on advanced high-speed rail technology.
