GITAM Launches School of Education, Introduces New Programmes for 2026-27

Hyderabad, June 17 (TNT): GITAM (Deemed to be University) on Wednesday launched the GITAM School of Education at its Hyderabad campus, further expanding its multidisciplinary learning ecosystem and academic offerings.

Announcing admissions for the 2026-27 academic year, GITAM Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. D. Sambasiva Rao said the university will offer two four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programmes (ITEP) — B.A. B.Ed. and B.Sc. B.Ed. — from the current academic year.

Both programmes have received approval from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and will have an intake of 50 students each, he said.

Prof. Rao said the university is expanding its academic portfolio in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Apart from the School of Education, GITAM is introducing new undergraduate programmes in Microbiology and Biotechnology under the School of Sciences, along with an M.Tech programme in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence under the School of Core Engineering.

Highlighting the growing importance of emerging technologies, he said the new master’s programme would build on GITAM’s existing strengths in computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, data science and core engineering disciplines.

The university is also launching an M.Pharm programme in Industrial Pharmacy, further strengthening its pharmacy education offerings.

Prof. Rao said GITAM’s Liberal Education Framework enables students to choose from over 600 combinations of majors and minors across the Schools of Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Business.

The flexible academic structure allows students to pursue interdisciplinary learning and tailor their education to individual interests and career aspirations.

Emphasising the university’s research focus, he said GITAM has invested more than ₹100 crore in developing research infrastructure across its campuses.

The institution has established advanced laboratories, expanded access to international research databases and journals, and strengthened research activities across disciplines including science, pharmacy, business, architecture, education and humanities.

Providing details of admissions, Dr. Richard Sharma, Head of the GITAM School of Education, said entry into the four-year ITEP programmes will be based on National Common Entrance Test (NCET) scores in accordance with NCTE guidelines.

Expressing confidence in the new academic initiatives, Dr. Sharma said the programmes have been designed to equip students with the skills, knowledge and practical exposure required to succeed in a rapidly evolving educational and technological landscape.
