Hyderabad, June 17 (TNT): Axis Bank and BITS Pilani have joined hands to establish a ₹100-crore Industry Research, Technology and Innovation Park at the BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus, aimed at strengthening India’s deep-tech, translational research and innovation ecosystem.
The two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which Axis Bank will provide a ₹100-crore CSR grant for the project.
The proposed Axis Bank-BITS Industry Research, Technology and Innovation Park will serve as a platform to promote industry-academia collaboration, innovation and entrepreneurship, the bank said in a release here on Wednesday.
The facility will focus on life sciences, biopharma, healthcare and medical devices, with the objective of developing affordable healthcare solutions and accelerating the commercialisation of research outcomes.
Located in Hyderabad, the park is expected to leverage the city’s thriving life sciences ecosystem, including Genome Valley, and contribute to the goals of the Centre’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.
Under the partnership, BITS Pilani will steer the governance and research agenda of the park, while Axis Bank will support the development of infrastructure.
Spread over around 1.2 lakh sq ft, the facility will house laboratories, incubation centres and shared research infrastructure.
It will support innovators from academia, startups and MSMEs through collaborative research, technology transfer, intellectual property management and access to academic expertise.
BITS Pilani Chancellor Kumar Mangalam Birla said the collaboration would help strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem and support cutting-edge research, entrepreneurship and talent development.
Axis Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Amitabh Chaudhry said the partnership reflects the bank’s commitment to fostering innovation-led ecosystems capable of addressing real-world challenges and driving sustainable progress.
BITS Pilani Vice-Chancellor V. Ramgopal Rao said the research park would create an interdisciplinary and research-intensive ecosystem that supports faculty-led innovation, doctoral research and industry collaboration.
The MoU was signed at a ceremony in Mumbai attended by representatives of both organisations, who reiterated their commitment to strengthening the bridge between research and industry and transforming ideas into impactful innovations.
