Vice-President Urges Young Scientists to Contribute to Nation-Building
Bhubaneswar, July 9 (TNT): Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Thursday called upon young scientists to harness science and innovation for nation-building while maintaining the highest standards of integrity and social responsibility.
Addressing the 15th Graduation Ceremony of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) here, he said institutions dedicated to fundamental sciences are critical to strengthening India’s knowledge economy, technological advancement, national security and sustainable development.
Describing NISER as a premier institution for scientific education and research, the Vice-President said it has played an important role in creating a highly skilled scientific workforce for the country.
Referring to global challenges such as climate change, emerging diseases and advances in artificial intelligence, quantum computing and advanced materials, Radhakrishnan said science must not only generate knowledge but also support policymaking and sustainable development.
He said scientific capability is essential for India to realise its vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and stressed the need for greater interdisciplinary collaboration to address complex global challenges.
Urging the graduating students to remain curious and uphold integrity, he said science is not only about finding answers but also about asking the right questions.
Highlighting India’s achievements in space exploration, vaccine development, digital public infrastructure and renewable energy, the Vice-President said the country’s growing scientific capabilities have earned global recognition.
Paying tribute to Dr. Homi J. Bhabha, he said institutions such as NISER are carrying forward India’s scientific legacy by producing researchers contributing to fundamental sciences, atomic energy and other emerging disciplines.
Recalling Dr. Bhabha’s contribution to India’s atomic programme, Radhakrishnan said the country had overcome setbacks to emerge as a leading nation in atomic research and expressed confidence that many NISER graduates would make significant contributions to India’s scientific and technological progress.
Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh, Department of Atomic Energy Secretary Ajit Kumar Mohanty, NISER Director H.N. Ghosh, faculty members, students and parents attended the ceremony.
