Secunderabad Railway Division engages IIT-Hyderabad for traffic studies
Hyderabad, Aug 28 (TNT): The Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway (SCR) has engaged IIT-Hyderabad to undertake comprehensive traffic assessment studies at Secunderabad and Lingampalli railway stations to reduce congestion, improve passenger dispersal and strengthen multimodal connectivity.
The study will assess vehicular and pedestrian movement, traffic circulation and access, multimodal integration, traffic bottlenecks, parking and pick-up/drop-off arrangements, junction and signal improvements and traffic management measures around the stations, the SCR said in a release here on Friday.
The assessment will use drone surveys, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)-based CCTV analysis, passenger field surveys and traffic simulations to develop data-driven measures for improving safety, accessibility and operational efficiency.
The initiative is being led by the Commercial Department of the Secunderabad Division in coordination with the Engineering, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Operating departments and other stakeholders.
The study is also expected to provide inputs for the ongoing redevelopment works at Secunderabad and Lingampalli stations, with the recommended measures to be incorporated into future station infrastructure.
Secunderabad Division DRM Dr R Gopalakrishnan said the study was expected to provide effective, data-driven solutions to existing traffic challenges and could be replicated at other major stations.
SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava appreciated the initiative and the use of latest technology in association with IIT-Hyderabad to address increasing traffic at major stations.
