Telangana CM Vows to Create One Crore Women Millionaires, Hands Over 535 Buses to SHGs

Hyderabad, June 9 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday evening declared that his government was committed to transforming one crore women into millionaires through economic empowerment initiatives and asserted that women would play a key role in achieving the State’s development goals.

Addressing a gathering after participating in the Mahila Vaarotsavalu celebrations and handing over 535 buses to women self-help groups (SHGs), the Chief Minister alleged that opposition parties were attempting to obstruct the government’s efforts to strengthen women’s economic independence.

“We are moving forward with the goal of making one crore women crorepatis. I am personally taking responsibility for women’s economic empowerment. With the blessings of women, we will continue to run this government until 2034,” Revanth Reddy said.

Highlighting the government’s focus on women-centric welfare and livelihood programmes, he said women were being encouraged to emerge as entrepreneurs and business leaders through self-help groups and various income-generation initiatives.

The Chief Minister said the government had entrusted the stitching of school uniforms to women’s self-help groups, facilitated the operation of petrol pumps by women and was encouraging women’s groups to establish solar power projects.

He said ‘Indira Mahila Shakti’ buildings were being constructed to provide institutional support to women entrepreneurs and noted that 106 stalls had been set up in Hyderabad’s Hitec City to market products manufactured by self-help groups.

Such products were also being sold through e-commerce platforms, he added.

Revanth Reddy said the Congress government had provided interest-free loans to women soon after assuming office and was committed to expanding economic opportunities for women across sectors.

Referring to the free bus travel scheme for women, he said the government had continued the programme despite criticism from opposition parties and claimed that the initiative had improved access to education, employment and other opportunities.

The Chief Minister said women had excelled in leadership roles under Congress governments and recalled the contributions of prominent women leaders from Telangana, including Chakali Ailamma, Arutla Kamaladevi and Mallu Swarajyam.

He also credited former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru with empowering women through universal voting rights and said the Congress party had consistently promoted women in public life.

Criticising the previous BRS government, Revanth Reddy alleged that it had failed to provide adequate representation to women and had not implemented promised interest-free loan schemes effectively.

Expressing confidence about greater political participation by women in the future, he said the proposed reservation of women in legislative bodies would significantly enhance their role in governance.

The Chief Minister also called for greater awareness among farmers on crop diversification and said priority should be given to promoting a variety of crops to strengthen the agricultural sector.
