Pralhad Joshi takes charge as Union Education Minsiter

New Delhi, July 26 (TNT): Senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi on Sunday assumed charge as the Union Minister for Education at Kartavya Bhavan, succeeding Dharmendra Pradhan, who resigned from the post a day earlier.

Joshi, who also holds the portfolios of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and New and Renewable Energy, chaired a review meeting soon after assuming office to assess the implementation of various schemes and initiatives of the Education Ministry.

Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary attended the meeting.

The review was attended by Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Dr Vineet Joshi, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, T.K. Anil Kumar, and other senior officials of the Ministry.

Pradhan resigned on Saturday following nationwide student protests over the alleged NEET paper leak, with demonstrators demanding his removal.

In his resignation letter, Pradhan said the issue was not one of “individual prestige” and that he was deeply disturbed by the developments of the past 10 days.

He said he had decided to step down in the larger interest.
