Telangana CM seeks PM’s Intervention on Godavari Water Sharing, Pushes for Key Telangana Projects
New Delhi, June 11 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in resolving key infrastructure and development issues pending before the Centre, including Godavari water utilisation, Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II, the Regional Ring Road (RRR), Warangal airport and the establishment of an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Hyderabad.
During a meeting with the Prime Minister in New Delhi, the Chief Minister submitted a memorandum outlining several pending issues and requested expeditious approvals and clearances.
Revanth Reddy urged Modi to facilitate a dialogue between the governments of Telangana and Maharashtra on the utilisation of Godavari waters for irrigation and drinking water needs, stating that the river’s waters were crucial to meeting Telangana’s future requirements.
The Chief Minister also sought approval for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II expansion project.
He informed the Prime Minister that the state had already submitted a proposal for expanding the Metro network by 122.9 kilometres across seven corridors at an estimated cost of ₹38,595 crore and requested that the project be sanctioned as a joint venture between the Centre and the State government.
Seeking immediate approval for the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road project, Revanth Reddy said the state government had agreed to bear 50 per cent of the land acquisition costs for the northern section and had already released ₹626 crore to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
He informed the Prime Minister that land acquisition for more than 90 per cent of the northern section had been completed and stressed that construction of the southern corridor, connecting Choutuppal and Sangareddy, was equally important for strengthening transportation infrastructure around Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister urged the Centre to approve both the northern and southern corridors and expedite execution of the project.
Revanth Reddy also drew the Prime Minister’s attention to the proposed Hyderabad–Amaravati–Bandar Port Expressway, which is awaiting central approval.
He said the proposed 12-lane expressway, connecting Hyderabad to Bandar Port via Amaravati, would provide crucial port connectivity to landlocked Telangana and significantly benefit export-oriented sectors such as pharmaceuticals, electronics and food processing.
The Chief Minister further sought the Centre’s support for the development of Warangal airport, noting that land acquisition had already been completed and handed over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
According to him, the airport would provide a major boost to industrial, educational and tourism activities in North Telangana.
Revanth Reddy also requested the Prime Minister to sanction an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Hyderabad, stating that the state government was prepared to allocate 200 acres of land for the institution.
He said Telangana already hosts premier institutions such as IIT, IIIT, NALSAR and TIFR, and establishment of an IIM would further strengthen higher education infrastructure in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
