TakeMe2Space’s PowerBank-50 becomes India’s first off-the-shelf satellite battery to achieve flight heritage
Hyderabad, July 30 (TNT): Hyderabad-based space technology company TakeMe2Space has achieved a major milestone by becoming the first Indian company to have an off-the-shelf satellite battery successfully complete an orbital mission and earn flight heritage.
The company’s PowerBank-50, a 50 Wh indigenously developed satellite battery pack, successfully powered Cosmoserve Space’s experimental payload aboard Skyroot Aerospace’s Vikram-1 rocket during its maiden orbital mission ‘Aagaman’, launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, on July 18, 2026.
The battery operated aboard the Orbital Adjustment Module (OAM) at an altitude of 450 km, successfully withstanding the challenges of launch vibrations, space vacuum, radiation and extreme temperature variations, the company said in a release here.
With this mission, PowerBank-50 has moved from a tested product to a flight-proven satellite component.
The milestone was achieved on Vikram-1, which became the first privately developed Indian rocket to reach orbit, marking a significant achievement for India’s private space ecosystem.
TakeMe2Space Founder and CEO Ronak Kumar Samantray said the successful mission provided the strongest validation for the product.
“PowerBank-50 is now space proven, made in India, and ready for every satellite builder in the world,” he said.
The company said flight heritage is one of the most critical credentials in the global satellite industry, as mission operators and satellite builders rely on proven components for high-value space missions.
PowerBank-50 validated its high-energy-density lithium-ion cells, intelligent battery management system, cell heaters and aluminium flight enclosure in actual orbital conditions.
The achievement is expected to strengthen India’s small satellite ecosystem by reducing dependence on imported battery systems.
TakeMe2Space said satellite developers, startups, universities and research institutions can now access a flight-proven power solution designed and manufactured in India.
PowerBank-50 delivers more than 50 Wh of energy storage in a compact 380-gram unit and includes onboard intelligence for battery health monitoring, balancing and thermal management.
The modular system can be scaled for CubeSats and microsatellites, with a mission life of up to five years in low Earth orbit.
The satellite battery is available commercially at ₹1,04,900, providing a cost-effective made-in-India alternative for satellite manufacturers.
TakeMe2Space is developing next-generation orbital infrastructure focused on in-space computing, data processing and orbital data centres through its MOI constellation and space-based computing platforms.
