Mahbubnagar (Telangana), Nov 5 (TNT) : Bajaj Finance Limited (BFL) organised a cyber fraud awareness programme for students of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) Junior College for Girls at Ramreddygudem in Mahbubnagar district on Thursday as part of its ‘Knockout Digital Fraud’ initiative.

Around 250 students, along with faculty members, participated in the programme aimed at creating awareness about cybercrime and financial fraud and promoting safe digital practices.

Inspector of Police, Cyber Crime, Shravan Kumar explained various forms of online fraud, including phishing, fake investment schemes, digital arrest scams, fraudulent loan offers, malicious APK files, OTP frauds, WhatsApp scams, QR code frauds and impersonation.

He cautioned students against sharing personal and banking information or transferring money in response to suspicious calls and messages.

Fraudsters were increasingly impersonating police officers and bank officials and using threats and false allegations to deceive people, he said.

He advised students to exercise caution while attending unknown WhatsApp video calls and responding to requests for Aadhaar or bank account verification. Awareness and timely verification were essential to prevent cyber fraud, he added.

The police inspector also advised students to develop communication skills, maintain consistent study habits and pursue their career goals with confidence and dedication.

Participants were urged to report cyber fraud incidents immediately through the national cybercrime helpline 1930.

The programme was attended by lecturers Avinthika and Anitha Rani of the college, Bajaj Finance Area Manager (RCU) Raghavendra B and Branch Manager Mahender Reddy.

A Bajaj Finance spokesperson said the financial safety of consumers was a priority for the company and that it was conducting online and offline awareness campaigns to educate citizens about cyber threats and safe digital practices.

The ‘Knockout Digital Fraud’ initiative focuses on educating people about fraudulent social media accounts, fake WhatsApp groups, phishing links, malicious mobile applications and websites impersonating financial institutions.

It also advises consumers against sharing OTPs, PINs and banking credentials or downloading applications from unknown sources.
