JSW Greentech launches AMPSTAR electric buses, trucks
Mumbai, Sept 22 (TNT): JSW Greentech Ltd, the commercial electric vehicle arm of JSW Group, on Tuesday launched AMPSTAR, a new brand of electric buses and trucks, marking the group’s entry into commercial mobility.
In a release, the company said AMPSTAR will offer electric commercial vehicles along with charging infrastructure, financing, operating solutions and after-sales support.
Customers will be able to choose power configurations ranging from 150 kW to 500 kW and ownership models including outright purchase, leasing and Battery as a Service (BaaS), it said.
AMPSTAR vehicles will be manufactured at JSW Greentech’s 90-acre integrated EV manufacturing facility at AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, which has an annual production capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks.
The facility will include a pre-treatment and electro-deposition (PT-ED) process for bus manufacturing, an automated truck-cabin production line and an integrated battery ecosystem, the company said.
JSW Greentech said it has developed the electric drivetrain’s base logic, software and algorithms in-house, with the vehicles designed for Indian road and climatic conditions. The vehicles will feature a double-cooling battery system and high-strength monocoque chassis.
The company’s electric bus range will comprise 7-metre to 18-metre buses for staff transportation, city, intercity and school applications.
On the truck side, AMPSTAR will initially offer a 55-tonne tractor-trailer, with plans to expand into tippers and fixed-body dumpers in the coming months, CEO Sumit Mittal said.
JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal said the company’s entry into electric commercial mobility was aimed at reducing dependence on imported fuel and strengthening domestic manufacturing.
JSW Group’s Parth Jindal said AMPSTAR had been developed as a full-stack commercial mobility solution to address challenges associated with the transition to electric vehicles.
