Telangana’s anti-narcotics secure national recognition in combating drug trafficking and substance abuse
Hyderabad, Sept 22 (TNT) : Telangana’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), including the Narcotics Bureau and Eagle Force, has secured more than 80 per cent marks in the Union government’s assessment of state ANTFs, earning national recognition for its performance in combating drug trafficking and substance abuse.
Telangana Eagle Force Director Sandeep Sandilya received the award on behalf of Telangana Police from Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the third National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force Heads in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The two-day conference, being held under the aegis of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), is focusing on coordinated strategies to combat drug trafficking, strengthen inter-agency cooperation and enhance the country’s anti-narcotics framework.
The state ANTFs were assessed on seven parameters, including intelligence operations, control of precursors and synthetic drugs, prosecution, demand and harm reduction, coordination and capacity building, research and analysis, and administration and logistics.
Telangana scored over 80 per cent in the assessment. The state has also established dedicated mechanisms for legal scrutiny, judicial analysis, witness protection and prosecution support to strengthen the handling of narcotics cases.
DGP C V Anand has been regularly reviewing the functioning of the Eagle Force and directing district Superintendents of Police and unit officers to focus on intelligence gathering, investigation of narcotics cases, action against drug networks and effective prosecution.
Anand congratulated Sandilya and the officers and personnel of the Eagle Force for the recognition and said protecting future generations from the impact of drugs remained a key priority of the Telangana government and police department.
He stressed the need for sustained and coordinated efforts to prevent the spread of narcotic substances, particularly among young people, and said enforcement and preventive mechanisms would continue to be strengthened.
With the recognition, Telangana Police has secured top-level recognition in two priority areas — cyber crime performance and anti-narcotics measures, the department said.
The police department is also undertaking a special drive to improve performance in areas including implementation of new criminal laws, ICJS and CCTNS, Anand added.
