Four students killed, one injured after train hits them in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district
Tekkali (Srikakulam), Sept 23 (TNT): Four Intermediate students were killed and another critically injured after they were hit by the Rajyarani Express near Burma Colony at Ravivalasa in Tekkali mandal of Srikakulam district on Wednesday.
The students were reportedly walking along the railway track towards Tekkali when the Rajyarani Express, travelling from Berhampur to Gunupur, hit them, killing four of them on the spot.
Tekkali Revenue Divisional Officer Krishnamurthy and Circle Inspector Vijay Kumar visited the spot after being alerted about the incident.
Officials launched rescue operations and initiated an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the accident.
The deceased were identified as Ganguvada Visakharavu, Janni Dileep Kumar, Janni Sharath Kumar and Savara Shiva, all below 17 years of age and from Tekkali mandal.
Another youth, Ganguvada Salman Raju (18) of Damara village, sustained critical injuries and was shifted to Tekkali District Hospital for treatment.
State Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu expressed shock and grief over the incident and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.
The Minister directed officials to ensure the injured student received the best possible medical treatment and provide all necessary assistance without delay.
He spoke with revenue and police officials and the local administration over the phone and directed them to expedite relief measures and extend support to the families of the deceased.
Atchannaidu also instructed officials to identify dangerous stretches along railway tracks and install warning signboards wherever necessary to prevent such incidents in the future.
