Capacity-building programme for ward officers concludes in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, Sept 23 (TNT): A three-day capacity-building programme on sanitation and solid waste management (SWM) for ward officers from 40 municipalities across Telangana concluded here on Wednesday.
The programme was organised by the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration (CDMA) in coordination with the National Institute of Urban Management (NIUM) from September 21 to 23 at the Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (RCUES), Osmania University.
Conducted under the guidance of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Secretary Dr T.K. Sreedevi, the programme focused on strengthening the technical and managerial capacities of frontline municipal personnel and improving urban sanitation systems.
The training covered the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, which came into force on April 1, along with the Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban 2.0, waste segregation and collection, route planning, field supervision and monitoring.
Sessions also covered solid waste processing and resource recovery, faecal sludge and septage management, sanitation worker safety and dignity under the NAMASTE initiative, and digital tools including GPS-based monitoring, MIS platforms and dashboards.
A key component of the programme was the preparation of Ward-level Sanitation Improvement Plans, enabling officers to translate the training into practical measures suited to the sanitation requirements of their respective municipalities.
The Municipal Administration Department plans to conduct the training in batches to cover ward officers working in 132 municipalities and municipal corporations in the State.
