AP CM to Launch ‘Netanna Sevalo’ Scheme on National Handloom Day

Amaravati, Aug. 6 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will launch the ‘Netanna Sevalo’ scheme in Chirala Assembly constituency on Friday, coinciding with the 12th National Handloom Day, as part of the state government’s initiatives for the welfare of handloom weavers.

Under the scheme, financial assistance of Rs. 25,000 will be provided to every eligible handloom family.

The government will disburse Rs. 179 crore to 71,536 handloom families.

The state government said it has been implementing several welfare measures for the handloom sector. As part of these initiatives, handloom families are being provided 200 units of free electricity per month, while powerloom units receive 500 units of free power.

The scheme benefits 62,541 handloom families and 10,032 powerloom units at an annual expenditure of about Rs. 150 crore.

The government is also spending Rs. 420 crore annually to provide a monthly pension of Rs. 4,000 to around 85,000 handloom weavers aged 50 years and above.

Besides, cash credit assistance of Rs. 79 crore has been extended to 109 Primary Handloom Cooperative Societies.

The government is also developing a Handloom Park at Mangalagiri, a special infrastructure project at Uppada and a Handloom and Handicrafts Museum at Shakamuru in Amaravati.

A sustainable textile recycling unit with an investment of Rs. 4,200 crore is also being established in Visakhapatnam.

According to the official schedule, the Chief Minister will arrive at Kothapeta village in Vetapalem mandal at 11.05 a.m. He will address a public meeting at 1.35 p.m. and later interact with beneficiaries at the Handloom Weavers’ Workshop in Jandrapeta at 4.10 p.m.

Naidu will also hold a review meeting with TDP functionaries at Kothapeta before returning to Amaravati.
