First Coal Rake from SCCL’s Naini Mine Reaches Telangana
Hyderabad, Aug. 7 (TNT): In a significant development for Telangana’s power sector, the first coal rake from Singareni Collieries Company Limited’s (SCCL) Naini Coal Mine in Odisha reached the Singareni Thermal Power Plant (STPP) at Jaipur in Mancherial district on Thursday.
The inaugural rake, comprising 59 BOXN wagons carrying nearly 4,000 tonnes of premium G-10 grade coal, travelled 1,131 km from the Naini mine, marking the first transportation of coal from an SCCL-owned mine outside Telangana to the state.
The Naini Coal Block, allotted to SCCL by the Ministry of Coal in August 2015, has coal reserves of 340.78 million tonnes, an annual production capacity of 10 million tonnes and an estimated mine life of 36 years.
Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, currently on an official visit to the United States, described the arrival of the first coal rake as a historic milestone in the history of Singareni.
In a video message, he congratulated the SCCL management, officers and employees and said the state government would continue to extend full support for the company’s expansion.
He said the commencement of coal transportation from the Naini mine would strengthen Telangana’s long-term energy security.
He also noted that SCCL had secured the Tadicherla-2 coal block and recently acquired the Manuguru Dip-side Block through auction, expressing confidence that the company would secure more mining blocks in the future.
Bhatti Vikramarka further said SCCL should diversify into critical and rare earth minerals and adopt advanced global mining technologies to emerge as a globally competitive mining company.
SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti thanked the Governments of Telangana and Odisha, Indian Railways and all officials and employees involved in facilitating the transportation of the first coal rake.
Director (Operations) L.V. Suryanarayana and Director (E&M) M. Tirumala Rao ceremonially received the rake at the Singareni Thermal Power Plant and inaugurated the coal unloading process.
They said the arrival of the first coal rake from an SCCL-owned mine outside Telangana marked a historic achievement and would help meet the state’s growing power requirements.
