Grand Pushpayagam performed at Sri Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy Temple, Appalayagunta

Tirupati, July 30 (TNT): The annual Pushpayagam was performed with religious fervour at the Sri Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy Temple at Appalayagunta on Thursday.

The ritual was conducted in accordance with Agama Shastra traditions as an act of atonement for any inadvertent lapses that might have occurred during the annual Brahmotsavams, which were held from June 25 to July 3, in the conduct of daily rituals and festivals.

As part of the programme, Snapana Tirumanjanam was performed to the presiding deity, Sri Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy, along with Sri Devi and Bhu Devi, using milk, curd, honey, sandalwood paste and tender coconut water.

The flowers to be used for the Pushpayagam were first offered special prayers before the deity and later taken in a ceremonial procession around the temple.

The deities were then seated on the Sarvabhupala Vahanam at a specially arranged venue within the temple premises.

The Pushpayagam was performed between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. amid Vedic chanting and traditional music using around 2.5 tonnes of flowers.

Eighteen varieties of flowers, including tulasi, chrysanthemum, oleander, mogali, sampangi, rose and lotus, along with six varieties of sacred leaves, were offered to the Lord during the ritual.

The colourful floral offering drew a large number of devotees and concluded with the Veedhi Utsavam.

TTD Deputy Executive Officer Harindranath, Assistant Executive Officer Devarajulu, Superintendent Srivani, Kankanabhattar Suryakumar Acharyulu, Temple Inspector Venugopal, temple officials, priests and devotees participated in the programme.
