Hyd:KIMS Secunderabad introduces advanced radiation oncology technology for cancer treatment
Hyderabad, Nov 4 (TNT) : KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, on Wednesday claimed that it has introduced advanced radiation oncology technologies, including the TrueBeam Linear Accelerator integrated with Brainlab Dynamic Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT), to provide precise and personalised radiation treatment for cancer patients.
Addressing after inaugurating the new facilities, Dr B. Bhaskar Rao, Chairman and Managing Director of KIMS Group of Hospitals, said the hospital was committed to bringing advanced medical technologies to patients in Telangana and neighbouring regions to improve access to quality cancer care.
Dr T. Pratap Reddy, Head of Radiation Oncology, KIMS Hospitals, said the integration of Brainlab Dynamic SGRT with the TrueBeam Linear Accelerator would significantly enhance the accuracy and consistency of radiation treatment through real-time monitoring of patient movements, six-dimensional positioning corrections and respiratory motion management.
The TrueBeam system supports advanced radiation therapy techniques, including Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and Stereotactic Radiosurgery/Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SRS/SBRT). These techniques help focus radiation on tumours while minimising exposure to surrounding healthy tissues, the hospital said in a release.
The Brainlab Dynamic SGRT technology enables non-contact, real-time monitoring of patients’ body movements during treatment, ensuring accurate positioning and improved treatment precision.
The technology is particularly useful in Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH) procedures for breast cancer patients, helping minimise radiation exposure to the heart and improve treatment safety in appropriately selected cases, the release added.
Dr B. Abhinay, CEO, and Dr Sambit Sahu, Medical Director, KIMS Group of Hospitals, were also present.
