National examination system should ensure equal opportunities for all: APCM Naidu
Amaravati, Nov 4 (TNT) : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday called for comprehensive national examination reforms that take into account India’s diversity in terms of states, languages and educational backgrounds, stressing the need for a transparent and credible system that ensures equal opportunities for all students.
A national examination framework should be evolved through consensus by incorporating the views of all states, irrespective of regional and linguistic differences, he said during a meeting with the Examination Reforms High-Powered Task Force, led by its Chairman Nandan Nilekani, at the Secretariat here.
Minister for Education and IT Nara Lokesh welcomed Nilekani on his arrival at the Secretariat.
Naidu said the examination system should reflect the aspirations and expectations of the present generation and should not restrict education to examinations and marks.
Instead, it should focus on developing students’ skills, creativity and critical thinking abilities.
Lokesh explained the policies being implemented in Andhra Pradesh and the use of technology in governance and education.
He stressed the need to design an examination system that reduces stress on students and ensures smooth movement between states for higher education and employment without difficulties relating to language, educational systems or certifications.
He also explained the state’s initiative to integrate information from different sectors through a Data Lake to facilitate better decision-making.
Nilekani said the task force was examining measures to prevent question paper leaks, improve the use of technology, strengthen cybersecurity systems and enhance digital forensics capabilities in conducting examinations.
The task force was visiting various states to understand existing policies, implementation challenges and the reforms required to strengthen the examination system, he said.
Nilekani expressed interest in Andhra Pradesh’s technology-driven governance initiatives and its approach to examination reforms.
