World Leaders Congratulate PM Modi on Becoming India’s Longest-Serving Elected Prime Minister

New Delhi, June 10 (TNT): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday received congratulatory messages from several world leaders after becoming India’s longest continuously serving democratically elected Prime Minister.

Leaders from Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Nigeria, the Maldives, Kenya, South Korea and Italy lauded Modi’s leadership and public service, while reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with India.

The milestone marks another chapter in Modi’s political career spanning over two decades in executive office.

Born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar in present-day Gujarat, Modi has served as Prime Minister since May 26, 2014. Prior to assuming office at the Centre, he served as Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014.

Under his leadership, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured victories in the 2014, 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, making him the first non-Congress Prime Minister to win three consecutive terms with a parliamentary majority.

With this achievement, Modi has surpassed the tenure record of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, to become the country’s longest continuously serving democratically elected Prime Minister.

Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay described Modi as a “friend, brother and mentor”, while Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake extended warm congratulations and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding partnership with India.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim termed the achievement a testament to Modi’s years of dedicated public service and leadership, expressing confidence in expanding bilateral cooperation and opportunities for the people of both nations.

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said the milestone reflected the enduring trust reposed in Modi’s leadership by the people of India over three consecutive mandates.

He also highlighted Modi’s contribution to strengthening India-Nigeria relations and wished him continued success.

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu congratulated Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister by consecutive days in office and expressed his country’s desire to deepen cooperation with India based on mutual respect and shared interests.

Kenyan President William Ruto described the achievement as a reflection of the confidence placed in Modi by the people of India and expressed hope for enhanced cooperation between the two countries.

Republic of Korea President Lee Jae-myung also congratulated Modi, acknowledging his role in India’s development and expressing confidence in further advancing the Korea-India Special Strategic Partnership.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni congratulated Modi on the historic milestone and said she looked forward to advancing the India-Italy Special Strategic Partnership launched during their recent meeting in Rome.
