Prez Murmu, Vice-Prez Radhakrishnan Congratulate PM Modi on Historic Tenure Milestone
New Delhi, June 10 (TNT): President Droupadi Murmu and Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister in India’s history.
Modi, who first took oath as Prime Minister on May 26, 2014, surpassed the record of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who served as an elected Prime Minister from May 13, 1952, to May 27, 1964.
While Nehru’s tenure as an elected Prime Minister lasted 4,398 days, Modi completed 4,399 consecutive days in office on June 10, 2026, setting a new record.
In a social media post, President Murmu said the landmark occasion reflected the enduring trust and confidence reposed in Modi’s leadership by the people of the country.
She said his tenure had been marked by significant achievements in governance, economic resilience and social transformation. The President noted that a range of welfare initiatives had ensured more inclusive and equitable access to development benefits, reaching people at the grassroots level.
Murmu said programmes such as PM-JANMAN and Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan held a special place in her heart and added that Modi’s inspiring journey continued to strengthen faith in India’s democratic traditions.
Meanwhile, Vice-President Radhakrishnan described the achievement as a historic milestone in India’s democratic journey and credited Modi’s leadership with driving transformative changes across sectors, including economic growth, infrastructure development, social welfare and technological advancement.
In a message posted on social media, the Vice-President said India’s enhanced global standing, renewed civilisational confidence and commitment to inclusive development had become defining features of the period under Modi’s leadership.
He also highlighted the government’s efforts in poverty alleviation, cultural preservation and national integration, describing the Prime Minister as a leader who had instilled confidence in the nation’s capabilities and aspirations.
Extending his best wishes, Radhakrishnan said Modi’s leadership would continue to guide the country in its journey towards achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047.
