Vehicle Retail Sales Rise 26.76% During Navratri 2026 Compared with 2024: FADA

New Delhi, Oct 21 (TNT): Vehicle retail sales in India increased 26.76 per cent to 11.23 lakh units during Navratri 2026 compared with the corresponding festive period in 2024, while electric vehicle (EV) sales rose 26.78 per cent, according to provisional data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) on Wednesday.

A total of 11,23,086 vehicles were retailed during the 10-day period from October 11 to 20, compared with 8,85,998 units during Navratri 2024.

However, retail sales declined 6.52 per cent from 12,01,479 units during Navratri 2025, which covered 11 days.

Two-wheeler retail sales increased 32.41 per cent to 8,34,075 units compared with 2024, while passenger vehicle sales rose 10.39 per cent to 1,82,728 units.

Three-wheeler sales grew 19.04 per cent to 45,735 units and commercial vehicle sales increased 16.47 per cent to 35,618 units.

Tractor sales rose 20.21 per cent to 22,690 units, while wheeled construction equipment sales declined 16.45 per cent to 2,240 units.

EV retail sales across categories rose to 1,17,437 units during Navratri 2026 from 64,153 units in 2024, registering an increase of 83.06 per cent.

Compared with Navratri 2025, EV sales increased 26.78 per cent from 92,628 units.

Electric two-wheeler sales rose 87.29 per cent to 75,758 units over 2024, while electric three-wheeler sales increased 39.32 per cent to 28,086 units.

Electric passenger vehicle sales surged 278.38 per cent to 12,305 units, and electric commercial vehicle sales increased 341.10 per cent to 1,288 units.

FADA President Sai Giridhar said the Navratri 2026 performance reflected healthy underlying demand, with total vehicle retail sales up nearly 27 per cent over the comparable festive period in 2024.

He attributed the decline compared with 2025 partly to the difference in the duration of the festive periods and the GST 2.0 rollout last year, which had brought forward demand into an extended sales window.

Giridhar said EVs accounted for around 10.5 per cent of festive vehicle sales, compared with approximately 7.7 per cent a year earlier.

He expressed cautious optimism ahead of the Dhanteras-to-Diwali sales period.

The provisional data were compiled in collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and covered 1,468 of the country’s 1,469 regional transport offices.

Registration data for three-wheelers, commercial vehicles and tractors in Telangana were unavailable for the period, FADA added.
