Underground drainage to be taken up in phases in Kakinada: MLA
Kakinada, Sept 16 (TNT): Underground drainage facilities will be developed in Kakinada city in phases, taking into account the geographical conditions of several areas located below sea level, City MLA Vanamadi Kondababu said on Wednesday.
Speaking after performing bhoomi pooja for BT road works costing Rs 3.20 crore in six localities, the MLA said underground drainage would initially be taken up in areas located above sea level.
He said open drains were causing sanitation problems due to accumulation of garbage and the resulting mosquito menace.
A survey was being conducted to identify areas suitable for underground drainage, which would be taken up in limited areas in the first phase and expanded subsequently based on feasibility, he said.
Kondababu said the State government was working towards comprehensive development of Kakinada city by improving basic amenities such as roads, drainage, drinking water and parks.
He said BT roads would be laid in the six localities where roads were damaged due to cyclones and heavy rains, and the works would be completed within the stipulated deadline while maintaining quality.
Municipal Corporation Executive Engineers Kanakarao and Machiraju, DE Adinarayana and coalition parties leaders Mallipudi Veeru, Bachu Sekhar, Palivela Ravi, Akula John Wesley, Vadisela Dalamma and Pasupuleti Venkateswara Rao were among those present.
