Food safety teams inspect 20 establishments in LB Nagar; licences of nine suspended

Hyderabad, Sept 16 (TNT): Enforcement teams of the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) inspected 20 food establishments in the LB Nagar area and found several food safety violations, following which FSSAI licences of nine establishments were suspended, officials said on Wednesday.

Ten teams comprising Food Safety Officers and police personnel conducted the special drive covering restaurants, hotels and manufacturing units.

Officials reported instances of spoiled and contaminated meat and vegetables, pest infestation, unhygienic premises, poor record maintenance, expired food products and improper storage and segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items.

Twenty food samples were lifted on suspicion of adulteration, while spoiled vegetables, stale meat and pest-infested raw materials, including groundnuts and flours, were discarded on the spot.

Improvement notices will be issued to Ramakrishna Oil Mill, Green Land Dhaba, Kefi Café and One Lounge Bar and Kitchen, with officials to conduct re-inspections to assess compliance.

Show-cause notices will be issued to Galaxy Café and Restaurant, ANTERA-Nagole, Hotel Saradhi Grand, Lucky Restaurant-Nagole, Vijaya Raghavendra Hotel, Bhagavati Misthan Bhandar and The Joint Al Mandi, with further action proposed for imposing penalties.

The FSSAI licences of Hotel Sangeeth Grand Restaurant and Bar, Bahar Biryani Café, Balaji Pheni and Namkeen, Bhuvaneshwari Oil Industries, Hotel Sindhura East Court, Chemistry Bar and Kitchen, New Limra Hotel, N Village Multicuisine Restaurant and Hotel Kinara Grand Restaurant and Bar were suspended, with directions to stop business operations immediately, the press note said.

At Bhuvaneshwari Oil Industries, officials seized 6,120 kg of groundnuts valued at Rs 5.50 lakh on suspicion of quality, besides reporting poor hygiene and the presence of foreign matter and dust in the raw material.

The action was taken during a special enforcement drive aimed at checking compliance with food safety norms in establishments in the LB Nagar area.
