Two-day national conference on ‘Dynamics of False Cases’ concludes at KSPP

Hyderabad, Aug 22 (TNT): The two-day National Conference on ‘The Dynamics of False Cases’, organised by the Kautilya School of Public Policy (KSPP), GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad, in association with Yugantar, the International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIITH) and Bhumika Women’s Collective, concluded here on Saturday.

Women’s rights lawyer and author Flavia Agnes, co-founder of Majlis Legal Centre, delivered the keynote address and highlighted concerns surrounding the concept of false cases, particularly in the context of domestic violence and gender justice.

The conference featured research presentations and discussions examining allegations of false cases and their impact on legal and investigative processes.

Sessions covered themes including ‘Legal Cases and Judicial Processes’, ‘Women’s Complaints and Investigative Processes’ and ‘False Cases in Popular Discourse’.

Researchers presented papers examining false-case data and narratives relating to marriage law, POCSO cases, human trafficking, sexual harassment, rape cases, the Prevention of Atrocities Act and domestic violence laws.

Panel discussions on ‘Joining the Dots: The Empirics of Police Complaints’ and ‘The Discourse of False Cases’ brought together lawyers, researchers, journalists and activists to examine the empirical, legal and social dimensions of the issue.

A special session featuring Justice Mukta Gupta in conversation with advocate Vasudha Nagaraj was also held, with Justice Gupta sharing her judicial perspective on the issues based on her experience.

The programme also featured an interactive cultural presentation, ‘Duly Noted’, curated by theatre groups ‘A Night of Feminist Short Plays’ and ‘Vikram-Betaal’, offering a creative perspective on gender and law.

Dr Vasudha Katju of KSPP delivered the welcome address, while KSPP Dean Amb Syed Akbaruddin delivered the opening remarks.

The conference brought together academics, legal practitioners, researchers, activists and students to examine the concept of ‘false cases’ and the ways in which related narratives are constructed and represented in law and public discourse.
