Telangana ruling Congress submits memorandum to Governor against alleged BRS ‘anti-Dalit’ conduct
Hyderabad, Sep 9 (TNT): Congress members of the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla seeking his intervention over alleged misconduct by BRS leaders during and after the recent incidents involving the Assembly Speaker and police.
The Congress leaders alleged that BRS MLCs Tatha Madhu and Naveen Reddy made derogatory remarks against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, including a reference to his deceased mother, and said the remarks had hurt the sentiments of the Dalit community and women.
They also alleged that BRS MLA T Harish Rao and other party leaders misbehaved with police personnel, including women officers, outside the Assembly and accused several BRS leaders, including working president K T Rama Rao, of physically assaulting police personnel.
The Congress leaders further alleged that members of the Dalit community who took out a peaceful march towards Erravalli seeking an apology from BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao were subjected to an alleged “cleansing” exercise, in which turmeric water and milk were sprinkled on roads they had walked on.
The memorandum described the alleged incident as an instance of untouchability and urged the Governor to take action against those responsible, including the BRS leadership allegedly behind the incidents.
The Congress leaders also accused the previous BRS government of failing to fulfil promises made to Dalits, including providing a Dalit Chief Minister, distributing three acres of land and ensuring representation to the Madiga community. They alleged that Rs 1,296 crore under the SC Sub-Plan remained unspent.
Meanwhile, the BRS had earlier approached the Governor alleging “atrocities” by the Congress government.
A delegation led by K T Rama Rao submitted a representation to Shukla at Lok Bhavan, alleging that BRS legislators, including women MLAs, were assaulted and prevented from entering the Assembly.
The BRS delegation also alleged an attack on the residence of party chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and claimed that his life was under threat.
