Khammam, May 27 (TNT): The Telangana Government on Wednesday announced plans to establish solar power projects managed by women’s self-help groups in every district of the State as part of its green energy and women empowerment initiatives.

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the government aims to generate 20,000 MW of solar power in the State by 2030 through expansion of renewable energy infrastructure.

The announcement was made during the inauguration of a ₹3 crore solar power plant operated by women’s self-help groups at Venkatapuram village in Khammam district under the Indira Mahila Shakti scheme, along with Panchayat Raj Minister Dansari Anasuya.

Bhatti said the initiative was aimed at strengthening women’s economic self-reliance by integrating them into the renewable energy sector and creating sustainable income opportunities.

According to the Deputy Chief Minister, the government has already provided land, subsidies and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) through DISCOMs to support such projects.

He stated that the State was committed to reducing dependence on thermal power and promoting renewable energy sources to ensure environmentally sustainable growth and pollution-free energy generation.

The Deputy CM also said the government intends to transform women’s self-help groups into economically self-sufficient institutions through livelihood opportunities linked to green energy and allied sectors.
