Telangana, Microsoft, 1M1B join hands to set up Green Skills & Applied AI CoE with Green Pharma focus
Hyderabad, July 16 (TNT): The Telangana government, in partnership with Microsoft, 1M1B Foundation (One Million for One Billion) and MeitY Startup Hub, on Thursday announced the establishment of India’s first Green Skills & Applied AI Centre of Excellence (CoE) with a dedicated focus on Green Pharma.
The Centre, expected to become operational by August 2026, aims to build a future-ready workforce by training youth in Artificial Intelligence (AI), sustainable manufacturing and emerging technologies, an official release said here.
The initiative is designed to support Telangana’s vision of becoming a global hub for sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing and aligns with the state’s Next-Generation Life Sciences Policy 2026-30.
The roadmap for the Centre was presented to IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat.
The facility will contribute to developing an AI-enabled talent pool as Telangana works towards creating over five lakh jobs across the life sciences ecosystem.
The meeting was attended by Microsoft India Development Centre President and Managing Director Rajiv Kumar, Microsoft Senior Director (Elevate-CSR) Manju Dhasmana, 1M1B Foundation Founder and CEO Manav Subodh, IT Advisor Sai Krishna, Telangana Life Sciences CEO Sarvesh Singh and senior government officials.
Sridhar Babu said Telangana’s next phase of growth would depend on a future-ready workforce capable of leading AI-driven transformation and sustainable innovation in life sciences and advanced manufacturing.
Rajiv Kumar said artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming the operating system for sustainable industries.
“In life sciences and pharmaceutical manufacturing, AI has the potential to improve productivity, optimise energy use, accelerate research and enable more sustainable operations. Through our Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad, we are helping build the talent ecosystem that will enable young people to participate in and lead the future of AI-powered Green Pharma. By combining Applied AI with Green Skills, we are preparing a new generation of innovators who can create solutions for both economic growth and climate resilience,” he said.
Manav Subodh said the future of Green Pharma would be built at the intersection of AI, sustainability and human talent.
He said the Centre aims to prepare young people to become innovators, entrepreneurs and problem-solvers who can apply AI to address sustainability challenges.
The CoE will feature dedicated learning zones for Applied AI, Green Pharma, Solar, Electric Vehicles and Wind Energy, along with industry-led projects, innovation cohorts, internships, mentorship, incubation support and career-readiness programmes.
The Hyderabad facility is one of five Green Skills & Applied AI Centres of Excellence being established across the country by 1M1B Foundation and Microsoft in collaboration with MeitY Startup Hub.
The national initiative aims to engage one lakh youth in Applied AI and Green Skills by 2030 while creating pathways to 50,000 jobs, internships, apprenticeships and entrepreneurship opportunities.
