Telangana govt to provide Rs 1 lakh assistance to SC, ST youth under Rajiv Yuva Vikasam
Hyderabad, Sept 15 (TNT): The Telangana government will provide financial assistance of up to Rs 1 lakh in the first phase under the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme from November 19, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said on Tuesday.
Bhatti, who reviewed SC and ST welfare programmes at Praja Bhavan here, directed officials to make arrangements for distribution of the assistance and ensure transparency in the selection of beneficiaries.
He said the government was according priority to the welfare and development of SC, ST, BC and minority communities and would allocate the required funds for education and other welfare programmes.
The Deputy Chief Minister asked officials to receive applications at the respective offices and conduct the selection process in the presence of district Collectors.
The meeting, attended by Social Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman and senior officials, reviewed welfare schemes, residential schools, educational infrastructure, self-employment, scholarships and SC Study Circles.
Bhatti directed officials to expedite the establishment of mechanised centralised kitchens in SC residential schools across the state to provide hygienic and nutritious food to students.
He said Rs 25 crore had been allocated in the Budget for the kitchens and procurement of machinery and asked officials to prepare a roadmap within 15 days for establishing them in all SC residential schools.
Officials were also directed to ensure uninterrupted supply of quality food to students until the new kitchens become operational.
The Deputy Chief Minister asked officials to prepare a database of students who had studied over the past 10 years at Hyderabad Public School, Ramanthapur Public School and residential and welfare educational institutions.
He sought details on their higher education, employment and students who discontinued education due to social or economic reasons.
Bhatti directed officials to commission a study through the Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) to assess the impact of education and facilities provided by the institutions on students.
Reviewing SC Study Circles, he sought details of expenditure, candidates selected, training provided and results achieved.
He directed officials to assess the outcomes and improve the quality of coaching.
He also asked officials to examine the introduction of industry-oriented courses in the 30 degree colleges run by the Social Welfare Department and explore linking them with the Skill University.
Officials informed the meeting that proposals for construction of 26 Ekalavya schools under the Tribal Welfare Department had been sent to the Central Government.
The meeting also reviewed infrastructure requirements and measures to improve educational facilities for tribal students.
Social Welfare Secretary Vijayendra Boi, Tribal Welfare Special Secretary Santosh, SC Corporation Vice Chairman and Managing Director Mallaiah Battu and other officials attended the meeting.
