Telangana CM calls for water conservation, greater use of treated wastewater
Hyderabad, Nov 1 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday called for proactive measures to conserve freshwater and promote the use of treated wastewater for non-domestic purposes in view of the anticipated El Niño conditions and Hyderabad’s growing water requirements.
In a message posted on social media platform X on the occasion of the 37th Formation Day of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), he greeted the Board’s officers, employees and their families.
The Chief Minister said HMWSSB had played a vital role over the past 37 years in ensuring safe drinking water supply and sewerage services to Hyderabad residents, contributing significantly to the city’s growth, public health and development.
With Hyderabad continuing to expand, water security and sustainable management of water resources should remain top priorities, he said, stressing the need to minimise freshwater consumption for non-domestic purposes.
He welcomed the launch of the ‘Dial Green Tanker – Green Tanker Operations’ initiative and described it as a timely step towards sustainable water management.
Revanth Reddy urged government departments, industries, construction agencies and commercial establishments to increasingly utilise treated wastewater for landscaping, construction and industrial requirements to reduce dependence on freshwater and ensure its availability for essential domestic needs.
He called upon citizens and all stakeholders to make water conservation a collective responsibility and contribute towards building a sustainable and water-secure Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister also wished HMWSSB continued success in serving the people of the Core Urban Region (CURE).
