Telangana Govt removes word “Pitchiguntla” from BC List

Hyderabad, May 24 (TNT):The Telangana government has issued orders deleting the word “Pitchiguntla” from the Backward Classes list following recommendations made by the Telangana Commission for Backward Classes.

The orders were issued through G.O. Ms. No. 4 by the Backward Classes Welfare (B) Department on May 23, 2026.

Earlier, the caste entry listed at Serial No. 18 under Group-A appeared as “Vamsha Raj / Pitchiguntla”.

Following the amendment, the entry will now appear only as “Vamsha Raj”, the GO added.

According to the Commission, the term “Pitchiguntla” was being used in a derogatory and disrespectful manner, causing humiliation to members of the community.

The Commission also observed that the name “Vamsha Raj” has gained wide social acceptance since 1995.

Officials stated that the amendment was made to protect the dignity of the community and prevent abusive or insulting usage of the earlier term.
