Telangana Govt committed to uninterrupted power, adequate water for industries: Dy CM Bhatti
Hyderabad, Aug 22 (TNT): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday said the state government was committed to providing adequate power and water to industries and was strengthening the power sector to support its goal of transforming Telangana into a $3 trillion economy by 2047.
Inaugurating Power Exhibition-2026, organised by SPDCL here, Bhatti said Telangana had emerged as an attractive investment destination and invited industries and investors from across the country to invest in the state’s manufacturing and services sectors.
He said the government was preparing long-term plans to meet future power requirements and enhance generation and supply capacity through thermal, solar, hydel, pumped storage and battery storage projects.
The Deputy Chief Minister said Telangana’s peak power demand had increased from around 13,000 MW earlier to more than 18,000 MW.
Despite the rise in demand, the government had ensured uninterrupted power supply through strengthening the transmission network, advance planning and timely procurement, he said.
An action plan was being prepared to ensure adequate electricity supply in the future, particularly to meet the requirements of industries, Bhatti said.
Since power generation projects take at least four to five years to establish, advance planning was essential to meet future demand, he said.
Bhatti said the government was giving priority to green energy along with thermal power and was taking steps to expand solar, hydel, pumped storage and battery storage capacities.
He described the power sector as the foundation for agriculture, industry and services and said uninterrupted electricity supply was crucial for the growth of the state’s GSDP.
On consumer services, Bhatti said grievances were being addressed through the 1912 toll-free service and ‘Power Ambulances’. The ambulance system, equipped with necessary equipment, transformers and personnel, was being expanded across the state to enable quick response to power-related problems.
He appreciated the Power Department for increasing the use of technology and developing in-house software, saying greater access to consumer-related information would improve transparency and efficiency.
The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted measures for the welfare of power sector employees, including clearing pending promotions and providing Rs 1 crore accident insurance to each employee working in hazardous conditions.
He called upon power department employees to publicise the department’s reforms and initiatives, including its apps, Prajabatha programme, 200 units of free electricity scheme and underground cable system being implemented in Hyderabad.
Bhatti said Power Exhibition-2026 was organised to create awareness, particularly among students, about the department’s achievements, ongoing reforms and use of modern technology.
Power Department Principal Secretary Naveen Mittal, SPDCL CMD Jitesh V Patil, NPDCL CMD Karnati Varun Reddy, Transco CMD Krishna Bhaskar and other senior officials attended the programme.
