Telangana DGP Reviews OCTOPUS Operations, Counter-Terror Preparedness
Hyderabad, May 14 (TNT): Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) C V Anand on Thursday visited the Commando Training Centre of OCTOPUS at Ibrahimpatnam, outskirts of Hyderabad, and reviewed the functioning, training activities and operational preparedness of the elite counter-terror unit.
During the visit, the DGP inspected the administration block, training block, operational facilities and newly developed infrastructure at the campus.
He interacted with officers and commandos, reviewed the preparedness of the force to respond to terror-related incidents and assessed the functioning of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams and training wing.
Dr. Anil Kumar, DGP Operations (OCTOPUS & Greyhounds, briefed the DGP on the operational activities of the force, including periodic mock exercises conducted at vulnerable installations and sensitive locations, counter-terror preparedness drills and specialised training in handling advanced weapons and equipment.
Addressing the officers and commandos, Anand stressed the importance of conducting mock operations in diverse building structures and real-time scenarios to improve operational effectiveness.
He emphasised the need to maintain the highest standards of physical fitness, alertness and round-the-clock readiness to effectively respond to counter-terror situations.
The DGP also reviewed requirements related to modern equipment and infrastructure enhancement for strengthening the counter-terror teams.
He advised the force to strengthen operational strategies for existing airports as well as upcoming airport facilities.
During the interaction, Anand said Greyhounds and OCTOPUS were among Telangana’s most prestigious police forces and had earned national recognition for professionalism and operational excellence.
He assured that both elite forces would continue to receive full support from the state government and the police department for further strengthening their capabilities.
