Telangana CM Reaffirms Commitment to Bharat Future City, Slams BRS Opposition
Hyderabad, June 18 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday reiterated the state government’s commitment to developing the proposed Bharat Future City and attracting global investments.
He said the future City would be as a first-of-its-kind futuristic urban project in the country.
Launching the ‘Vanamahotsavam-2026’ programme in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister said the government would move ahead with the project despite opposition from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
“We are committed to completing the prestigious Future City project and ensuring that it becomes a model city that future generations will admire,” he said.
Reddy criticised the BRS for opposing the proposed city spread over 30,000 acres and for advocating the establishment of pharmaceutical industries in the project area.
Alleging that the opposition party was attempting to hinder the project, he said people had already rejected the BRS and accused its leaders of trying to create obstacles to the state’s development plans.
Referring to environmental concerns, the Chief Minister said the government had earlier faced challenges in relocating pharmaceutical units from urban areas and maintained that setting up such industries in the proposed Future City could pose environmental risks.
He also alleged that efforts were being made to stall the project through complaints filed before judicial and environmental bodies, including the High Court and the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
Highlighting the environmental component of the project, Reddy said a 15,000-acre forest would be developed within Bharat Future City and that nearly 60 per cent of the total area would be covered with greenery.
The Chief Minister appealed to people to support the project, stating that it would contribute significantly to Telangana’s future growth and development.
