Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Defends Musi Rejuvenation Project, Targets BRS

Hyderabad, June 18 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday said the state government was committed to transforming Hyderabad into a global city and accused the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of obstructing the Musi River rejuvenation project.

Addressing a gathering after launching the ‘Vanamahotsavam-2026’ programme, the Chief Minister launched a sharp attack on the opposition, alleging that leaders of the previous regime were opposing efforts to clean and develop the Musi River.

Reddy said residents living along the river had been facing severe hardships due to pollution and stressed that the government was taking steps to restore the river and reclaim encroached water bodies.

Referring to past rehabilitation initiatives, he noted that families residing along the Musi had earlier been shifted to Nandanavanam Colony, which has since developed into an important residential area.

The Chief Minister said major infrastructure projects such as HITEC City, the Outer Ring Road, the international airport and the growth of the IT sector had achieved global recognition because of visionary planning by previous governments.

He also recalled the contribution of former minister Devender Goud in land acquisition for the Shamshabad airport project.

Expressing concern over the impact of river pollution on downstream regions, Reddy said residents of Nalgonda district were facing serious health issues and hardships, forcing some families to migrate.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to rejuvenating the Musi River and said the waterway would be developed to international standards along a 55-kilometre stretch from Gandipet to Gowrelli.

The Chief Minister maintained that the Musi Rejuvenation Project was crucial for Hyderabad’s sustainable growth, environmental protection and public health.
