Telangana CM Draws Congress Action Plan on SIR, Warns Vulnerable Sections May Lose Votes
Hyderabad, May 29 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday unveiled the Congress party’s action plan to safeguard the voting rights of vulnerable sections during the proposed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, warning that Dalits, minorities, women, tribal communities and migrant workers could face difficulties during the exercise.
Addressing the Congress Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting at Gandhi Bhavan here, Revanth Reddy said the SIR, scheduled to be launched in Telangana from June, could emerge as a major concern for Lambadas, Adivasis, tribal communities and migrant workers, particularly in constituencies that have witnessed large-scale migration.
He cautioned that the names of several eligible voters could be omitted if adequate precautions were not taken and noted that Dalits, minorities and women were among the groups most vulnerable to exclusion from electoral rolls.
The Chief Minister directed the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) to appoint dedicated in-charges for all 119 Assembly constituencies and 17 Lok Sabha constituencies to closely monitor the revision process.
“In-charges must regularly visit their respective constituencies. If they perform their responsibilities effectively, not a single vote will be deleted,” he said.
Revanth Reddy also instructed in-charge ministers to devote one full day every ten days exclusively for party-related activities and grassroots engagement. He asked them to personally interact with party workers and monitor developments at the constituency level.
Announcing his own organisational outreach programme, the Chief Minister said he would meet party workers at the grassroots level once every ten days and dedicate three days every month exclusively for interaction with party functionaries.
Highlighting the success of the Congress digital membership campaign, Revanth Reddy said the party had enrolled 45 lakh digital members in the last 90 days with the support of booth-level enrollers.
He noted that those who enrolled the highest number of members had already been honoured by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and directed the party leadership to utilise the services of these experienced enrollers during the SIR process as well.
The Chief Minister instructed ministers, MLAs, MPs, MLCs and Corporation Chairpersons to actively participate in party programmes and organisational activities without exception.
He said a positive outcome of the discussions so far was that party leaders and workers were becoming increasingly aware of the implications of the SIR exercise and the challenges it could pose for ordinary citizens and Congress supporters.
Revanth Reddy emphasised that the party must develop a comprehensive understanding of all issues likely to arise during the revision process and formulate effective solutions in advance.
He also suggested seeking the advice and guidance of former PCC presidents and stressed the need to ensure that the votes of people who had migrated from their native places were not lost.
The Chief Minister directed the party to organise constituency-wise meetings on SIR in all 15 Assembly constituencies within Hyderabad city limits, while assigning specific responsibilities in the city to Rajya Sabha members and MLCs.
He further instructed the Mahila Congress to conduct cluster-level meetings to create awareness among women voters and assist them during the electoral revision process.
Calling for unity and coordination, Revanth Reddy urged all Congress leaders and workers to work together to protect every eligible vote and strengthen the party’s organisational network across the state.
