Telangana BJP Prez demands immediate resolution of OU hostel accommodation issues
Hyderabad, Sept 21 (TNT): BJP Telangana President N Ramchander Rao on Monday demanded that the state government immediately address severe accommodation problems faced by students at Osmania University and release the Rs 1,000 crore announced for the varsity’s development.
Speaking to media persons after visiting Ganesh mandaps at various hostels around the Osmania University campus and offering prayers, Rao said the university reflects Hyderabad’s spiritual and cultural heritage during the Navratri festival.
He said students had installed Ganesha idols at hostels across the campus and were celebrating the festival with devotion.
He also visited his former hostel, ‘E’ Hostel, and the Old PG Hostel, and congratulated research scholars who had secured PhDs, post-doctoral fellowships and ICHR qualifications.
Rao, however, expressed concern over the relocation of students from ‘E’ Hostel to ‘C’ Hostel without proper alternative arrangements, saying it was causing distress to students.
He said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had announced Rs 1,000 crore for the development of Osmania University but alleged that the funds had not yet been released.
As the Chief Minister also holds the Education portfolio, Rao demanded immediate release of the funds.
He urged the government to replace dilapidated hostels with modern facilities and take up urgent repairs to improve living conditions for students.
On the Ganesh festival, Rao said devotees in Hyderabad had traditionally treated Hussain Sagar as ‘Vinayaka Sagar’ and opposed any move to divert idol immersions to the backwaters.
He said more than one lakh idols across the city, including the 70-foot Maha Ganapati of Khairatabad and the 73-foot idol at Kothapet, would be immersed during the festival.
He said the use of heavy cranes and continuous sanitation measures could help clear debris after immersion and address environmental concerns.
Rao demanded that the government provide full permission and necessary infrastructure and security arrangements for Ganesh idol immersion in Hussain Sagar in accordance with tradition.
He said the BJP supported the demands of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi and urged coordination among elected representatives, police and government departments to facilitate the immersion arrangements.
