Telangana Aims for Top Tourism Spot; Jupally Seeks Time-Bound Action Plan

Hyderabad, Apr 28 (TNT): Telangana is poised to emerge as a premier tourism destination, with Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Tuesday directing officials to prepare a comprehensive, time-bound action plan to boost infrastructure, branding, and promotion across the State.

Chairing a Tourism Advisory Committee meeting at Tourism Plaza in Begumpet here, the Minister said the government is committed to transforming Telangana into a vibrant tourism hub by leveraging its rich heritage, temples, eco-tourism sites, forests, reservoirs, and hospitality sector.

He stressed the need to strengthen basic amenities at key destinations, including toilets, temporary accommodation, tents, glass houses, and wayside facilities.

Officials were also asked to ensure continuous follow-up on suggestions and assign clear responsibilities for implementation.

As part of promotional efforts, Rao proposed organising a grand annual carnival in Hyderabad during November–December to attract both domestic and international tourists.

He said the event should evolve into a self-sustaining model with sponsorship support, alongside city beautification initiatives such as sculptures, landscaping, and creative public spaces.

The Minister directed officials to accelerate tourism development in key locations, including Ramappa Temple, Yadadri Temple, Golconda Fort, Taramati Baradari, and Nagarjuna Sagar, among others.

He also called for regular weekend cultural programmes at major tourist centres to enhance visitor engagement.

Committee members suggested positioning Hyderabad as a global tourism and wedding destination, while also strengthening medical, wellness, temple, golf, and film tourism. They emphasised the need for aggressive marketing in domestic as well as Middle East and Central Asian markets.

Special Chief Secretary Vani Prasad informed that steps are underway to develop amenities, tourism projects, caravans, forts, and investor outreach initiatives, while highlighting the need for stronger branding and faster execution.

The Minister assured that all constructive suggestions would be positively considered and incorporated into the State’s tourism roadmap, directing officials to present concrete proposals in the next review meeting and ensure visible progress on priority initiatives.
