Tata Power Renewable Energy launches 800 MW clean energy project in Andhra Pradesh
Kurnool, July 30 (TNT): Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, on Thursday commenced work on its 800 MW renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh, marking a major step towards strengthening the State’s clean energy infrastructure.
The project, comprising 400 MW solar power capacity and 400 MW wind power capacity, is being developed with an investment of ₹5,750 crore and is expected to create around 4,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities during its development, construction and operational phases.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Andhra Pradesh Minister for IT&E&C RTG Nara Lokesh, Tata Power CEO and MD Dr Praveer Sinha, and other senior State government officials.
The project includes a 400 MW wind power facility at Kanekallu in Ananthapuram district and a 400 MW solar power facility at Pattikonda in Kurnool district.
TPREL will develop the wind asset, while Suzlon will execute the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) scope for the wind component.
The project has secured 800 MW Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) connectivity at the Ananthapuram II and Kurnool-4 CTUIL substations, enabling efficient evacuation of renewable power through the national transmission network.
A part of the project will include a 200 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project for NTPC, integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) having a storage capacity of 25 MW/50 MWh.
The renewable energy project is being implemented under the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, aimed at encouraging large-scale clean energy investments, accelerating renewable capacity addition and promoting sustainable industrial growth in the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Nara Lokesh said Andhra Pradesh has the potential to become a global clean energy hub by leveraging its coastline and renewable resources.
He said the State’s vision extends beyond renewable power generation to green hydrogen, green ammonia and other green energy solutions.
Praveer Sinha said the project would contribute to India’s clean energy transition by integrating solar and wind capacity to support reliable renewable power generation.
Suzlon Group Co-founder Girish Tanti said the partnership with Tata Power reinforces the commitment towards accelerating India’s renewable energy growth and supporting Andhra Pradesh’s clean energy ambitions.
The project further strengthens TPREL’s renewable energy portfolio and aligns with Tata Power’s long-term objective of expanding clean energy capacity while supporting India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
