Shivkumar set to succeed Siddaramaiah as Karnataka CM: Governor acdepts resignation
Bengaluru, May 29 (TNT): Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Friday accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and dissolved the Council of Ministers headed by him, paving the way for Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar to take over as the next Chief Minister.
According to a communication from Raj Bhavan, Siddaramaiah will continue as caretaker Chief Minister until a new government is sworn in.
Siddaramaiah had submitted his one-line resignation on Thursday to the Governor’s Special Secretary at Lok Bhavan in the absence of Governor Gehlot, who was away in Indore on personal work.
The leadership transition comes after the Congress high command finalised its plans for a change of guard in the southern state.
Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah arrived in New Delhi on Friday for consultations with the party leadership on the formation of the next government and the appointment of a new president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.

Later in the day, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar are expected to meet Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi at the official residence of former Congress president Sonia Gandhi at 10 Janpath in New Delhi.
Sources said the discussions will focus on the composition of the new Cabinet and the allocation of portfolios in the incoming government.
A meeting of the Congress Legislature Party is expected to be convened once the Cabinet structure is finalised, following which Shivakumar’s swearing-in is likely to take place.
The development marks the end of Siddaramaiah’s tenure as Chief Minister and signals the beginning of a new phase in Karnataka politics under Shivakumar’s leadership.
