Protest if Free Education, Healthcare Not Ensured: TRS Prez Kavitha

Hyderabad, May 2 (TNT) : Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) President Kalvakuntla  Kavitha on Saturday called upon people to strongly protest if free education and healthcare are not provided, asserting that access to these essential services must be guaranteed.

Addressing a “Meet the Press” programme organized by the Telangana State Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ) here, Kavitha said nearly 60 per cent of household income in Telangana was being spent on education and healthcare, placing a heavy burden on families.

She maintained that with proper planning and political will, these services could be made accessible free of cost.

She reiterated her commitment to implementing the five-point “Panchajanyam” agenda and said she should be held accountable if promises made to activists and martyrs’ families were not fulfilled.

She also asserted that up to ₹1 lakh crore from government revenues could be allocated to priority welfare sectors based on expert consultations.

Clarifying her remarks on her faither and BRS Chief K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), she said her criticism was purely political and directed at him in his capacity as BRS president, not as her father.

She emphasised that ideological differences would continue to guide her political stance.

She alleged that several opportunities were missed after Telangana’s formation, particularly in irrigation and governance, and raised concerns over repeated exam paper leaks affecting unemployed youth.

Kavitha said her party’s objective was to achieve “Sarvodaya Telangana,” focusing on inclusive development rather than targeting any particular political party.

She also reiterated her goal of unseating the Congress government within 1,000 days.

On women empowerment, she announced that at least 33 per cent of party tickets would be reserved for women, irrespective of the status of the Women’s Reservation Bill, with scope to increase it further.

She said her party would remain open to alliances with like-minded groups sharing similar ideological values, while ruling out post-poll alliances.

She also indicated that she would raise national issues such as delimitation and state rights with Narendra Modi.

Kavitha further appealed to former Maoists who have renounced violence to join the democratic process and participate in public life.

She expressed confidence that people would support her party based on its commitment and sincerity in serving the public.
