PM Modi Says Somnath Symbolises India’s Civilisational Resilience at Amrut Mahotsav

Somnath (Gujarat), May 11 (TNT): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the 75th anniversary celebrations of the reconstructed Somnath Temple represent not merely a ceremonial occasion but a declaration of India’s eternal consciousness and civilisational resilience.

Addressing a gathering at the Somnath Temple complex during the “Somnath Amrut Mahotsav”, the Prime Minister said the restoration of the temple after Independence symbolised India’s reclaiming of its ancient glory and cultural identity.

Recalling the reconstruction and consecration of the temple in 1951, Modi said that while India attained political independence in 1947, the Pran Pratishtha of Somnath proclaimed the independent consciousness of the nation.

The Prime Minister drew parallels between the political integration of princely states by Vallabhbhai Patel and his determination to rebuild the Somnath Temple.

He said Somnath represented the spirit of creation emerging from destruction and symbolised the indestructible nature of Indian civilisation despite repeated invasions and attempts to erase its cultural identity.

Modi said the celebrations are not merely about commemorating the past but also about inspiring India’s journey over the next thousand years.

Referring to the anniversary of the Pokhran nuclear tests conducted on May 11, 1998, the Prime Minister said the tests demonstrated India’s scientific capability and political resolve under the leadership of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He noted that the nuclear operation was named “Operation Shakti”, reflecting India’s cultural tradition of worshipping Shiva and Shakti together.

Highlighting India’s cultural and spiritual heritage, Modi said repeated reconstruction of Somnath by rulers and devotees across centuries reflected the intellectual and spiritual strength of Indian civilisation.

The Prime Minister paid tributes to personalities including Sardar Patel, Rajendra Prasad and K. M. Munshi for their role in restoring the temple.

Modi also highlighted the government’s efforts in developing major religious and heritage centres across the country, including Kedarnath, Kashi Vishwanath Dham, Mahakal Mahalok, the Chardham highway project, Kartarpur Corridor and the Buddhist Circuit.

He said cultural and spiritual centres are not obstacles to development but engines of economic growth, employment generation and social progress.

The Prime Minister concluded by calling upon future generations to remain rooted in India’s traditions while carrying forward the country’s developmental journey with confidence and cultural continuity.
