Maruti Suzuki to set up 12 automated driving test tracks in Telangana

Hyderabad, Nov 5 (TNT): Maruti Suzuki India Limited has signed an agreement with the Telangana Transport Department to establish 12 Automated Driving Licence Test Tracks (ADTTs) at six locations across the state to improve road safety and ensure transparency in the issuance of driving licences.

The tracks will be set up at Ibrahimpatnam and Kondapur in Ranga Reddy district, Uppal, Medchal and Nagole in Medchal district, and Karimnagar, the largest passenger car manufacturer said in a release on Thursday.

The automated facilities will conduct driving tests for two-wheelers, light motor vehicles (LMVs) and heavy motor vehicles (HMVs).

They will be equipped with high-definition cameras, RFID sensors, real-time analytics and integrated information technology systems to conduct computerised, rule-based tests in accordance with the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR).

The technology-based evaluation system is aimed at eliminating human bias and errors while ensuring objective assessment of applicants’ driving skills.

Transport Commissioner K Ilambarithi said road safety remained a key priority for the Telangana government and the partnership would make driving tests more transparent and efficient, ensuring that only competent and qualified applicants obtained driving licences.

Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said automated driving test tracks would bring fairness and transparency to the licensing process and promote disciplined driving practices.

Maruti Suzuki has so far established 98 automated driving test tracks across nine states and two Union Territories, including 12 in Telangana, the company said.

The company has also established eight Institutes of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTRs) and 19 Road Safety Knowledge Centres (RSKCs) in collaboration with various state governments.

More than 5.5 million people have been trained and evaluated at these facilities since their inception up to FY 2025-26, the release added.

It is also implementing Integrated Traffic Safety Management System projects in Delhi and Haryana and providing first-responder training to commercial drivers and other stakeholders.
