Kisan Congress Urges AP Govt to Restore Old Urea Distribution Mechanism

Kakinada, July 11(TNT): Andhra Pradesh Kisan Congress chairman Kamana Prabhakara Rao on Saturday demanded that the State government restore the previous system of urea distribution, alleging that the newly introduced app-based mechanism has made it difficult for farmers to access fertilisers.

Addressing a press conference here, Prabhakara Rao said a majority of farmers were unable to use the app as many were either not digitally literate or did not own smartphones.

He claimed that most farmers use basic mobile phones without internet or WhatsApp facilities, making the app-based distribution system impractical.

He urged the government to withdraw the app-based system and revert to the earlier method of fertiliser distribution to ensure timely supply to farmers.

The Kisan Congress leader also alleged that the coalition government had failed to implement the free crop insurance scheme and had discontinued the input subsidy programme.

He claimed that no farmer had received input subsidy under the present dispensation.

Prabhakara Rao further alleged that farmers were facing financial distress due to the lack of remunerative prices for their produce and said it was unfair to burden them with digital procedures for accessing essential agricultural inputs such as urea and other fertilisers.

Citing a recent incident in support of his demand, he referred to the death of a woman farmer, who allegedly suffered a sunstroke while waiting to obtain a bag of urea at the Rythu Seva Kendram in Pedalavunapalli village of Nandigama mandal in Srikakulam district.
