Kakinada: One arrested in Peddapuram RDO house burglary; cash, gold jewellery recovered
Kakinada, Sept 26 (TNT): Kakinada district police arrested a man in connection with the burglary at the residence of the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) in Peddapuram on July 25 and recovered Rs. 15 lakh in cash and gold jewellery weighing 105.4 grams, Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav said on Saturday.
The accused, Mamidi Sivakumar alias Siva of Kothapalem village in Addateegala mandal, was arrested near a petrol bunk at Vadlamuru village on Saturday morning by a police team led by Peddapuram Circle Inspector Y.R.K. Srinivas.
Addressing a press conference here, the SP said the case posed a challenge to investigators as no direct evidence was available at the scene of the offence.
The case was cracked under his direct supervision with the help of modern information technology and investigative techniques, he added.
According to the SP, the accused confessed to the crime and explained how he allegedly gained entry into the house by breaking open a mesh door at the rear.
He reportedly stole 276 grams of gold jewellery, 48 grams of silver articles and Rs. 75,000 in cash from a steel almirah.
The accused would be produced before a court and sent to judicial remand, the SP said.
He congratulated the investigating team comprising Additional SP Mahanti Kishore Kumar, Peddapuram DSP A.B.G. Tilak, Circle Inspector Y.R.K. Srinivas, CCS CI Ankababu, IT Core CI Durga Sekhar Reddy and Peddapuram SI Paparao. He also announced rewards for other police personnel who participated in the investigation.
Meanwhile, referring to the proposed ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ protest by ward secretariat staff on September 27, the SP said permission had not been granted for the stir.
He directed the staff to attend their duties on Sunday and said those wishing to leave the district must obtain prior permission, warning that violations would invite stringent action.
