Kakinada civic chief imposes Rs 5,000 fine for blocking drain
Kakinada, July 21 (TNT): Kakinada Municipal Corporation Commissioner N.V.V. Satyanarayana on Tuesday imposed a penalty of ₹5,000 on a house owner in Santhanapuri Colony of the city’s Third Division for illegally blocking a roadside drain to store construction material.
During his routine morning inspection of wards, the Commissioner found that the drain in front of the house had been covered, resulting in waterlogging and foul smell in the area.
He directed municipal staff to immediately remove the construction material and restore the drain.
Interacting with residents, Satyanarayana reviewed civic issues including drinking water supply, drainage, street lighting, park maintenance and the stray dog menace.
Responding to residents’ requests, he directed officials to install four new streetlights in one locality and instructed the horticulture department to clear weeds and overgrown vegetation in a park.
The Commissioner also assured residents that the stray dog problem would be addressed by deploying dog-catching squads and shifting the animals for sterilisation under the animal birth control programme.
He said the Municipal Corporation would continue its special drive against unauthorised flex banners and appealed to the public to cooperate in keeping the city clean, smart and aesthetically pleasing.
Health Officer Dr. Prudhwicharan and other municipal officials accompanied the Commissioner during the inspection.
