Japanese semiconductor major Hirata enters Indian market, ties up with ATS India

Hyderabad, Sept 16 (TNT): Japanese semiconductor manufacturing and automation equipment company Hirata Corporation has entered the Indian market through a strategic partnership with ATS India, the companies said on Wednesday.

Under the partnership, ATS India will be Hirata’s exclusive distribution partner in India and will offer its semiconductor equipment and technology portfolio to Indian manufacturers, the company said in a release on Wednesday.

The tie-up comes ahead of Semicon 2026 and amid efforts to strengthen India’s domestic semiconductor manufacturing and electronics manufacturing ecosystem.

Hirata will initially focus on its standard product offerings in India and may expand into customised and application-specific solutions as the semiconductor ecosystem develops, the companies said.

Its portfolio includes Equipment Front End Modules (EFEM), FOPLP load ports, PLP panel-handling robots and high-performance wafer-handling robots for semiconductor manufacturing and advanced packaging applications.

ATS India CEO Kishen Kavikondala said the partnership would help establish a local commercial, technical and service ecosystem for semiconductor manufacturers as production capacity expands.

Local availability of the equipment would also reduce dependence on cross-border logistics and facilitate technical support and servicing, he said.

Hirata Corporation of America Vice President John Derzy said India was an important growth market for the company amid the diversification of global semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.

The partnership would seek to increase automation in semiconductor manufacturing, particularly in outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) operations, he said.

The companies said the collaboration would also support development of the local supply chain and skills in precision manufacturing.

They said the partnership would facilitate greater adoption of semiconductor automation and material-handling technologies in India.

According to the companies, India’s electronic manufacturing services (EMS) market is projected to exceed USD 150 billion by FY30, compared with an estimated USD 40-45 billion in 2025.
