IIIT-Hyderabad, Hexagon R&D India to set up Digital Twin Centre of Excellence

Hyderabad, Sept 23 (TNT): The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT-Hyderabad) and Hexagon R&D India on Wednesday announced a collaboration to establish the Hexagon Digital Twin Centre of Excellence (CoE) at IIIT-Hyderabad.

The Centre will focus on applied research, education and industry collaboration in computer vision, spatial computing and AI-powered digital twins, Hexagon, the global leader in measurement technologies, said in a release here.

As part of the collaboration, students, faculty and researchers at IIIT-Hyderabad will gain access to Hexagon’s precision imaging laser scanner, Leica BLK360 G2, along with the relevant software package, to facilitate the creation of high-fidelity digital twins.

The CoE will provide a platform for research and innovation, supporting the development of prototypes, proofs of concept and solutions to real-world industry challenges.

It will also enable students and researchers to work with industry-grade technologies and datasets and explore applications in spatial computing and computer vision.

IIIT-Hyderabad Director Prof Sandeep K Shukla said the collaboration would provide researchers and students access to advanced technologies and real-world spatial data, creating opportunities to translate research into practical applications.

Navaneet Mishra, Senior Vice President and Head of Hexagon’s R&D India, said the ability to capture, understand and digitally represent the physical world was opening up new possibilities across industries.

The collaboration would provide students and researchers access to Hexagon’s technologies and real-world challenges, he said.

Nora Hollenstein, VP, AI Hub at Hexagon AB, said the company had research collaborations across the globe and aimed to create an environment in India where ideas could be tested and deep research could contribute to real-world solutions.
