Hyd: Union Minister Kishan Reddy Alleges Political Pressure Behind DCP’s Transfer in Cyber Crime Case
Hyderabad, Aug. 4 (TNT): Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Tuesday alleged that a senior Hyderabad police officer investigating a cybercrime case relating to objectionable social media posts against Prime Minister Narendra Modi was transferred under political pressure by the Telangana Government.
Addressing a press conference here, Kishan Reddy said BJP leader Sai Kiran had lodged a complaint with the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police over alleged objectionable and morphed content targeting the Prime Minister and his mother on social media platforms.
Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered under provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), he said.
The Union Minister alleged that DCP Aravind Babu, who had issued notices to Meta India as part of the investigation, was transferred by the State Government despite acting in accordance with the law.
Claiming that frequent transfers of officials had become a regular feature under the present government, Kishan Reddy alleged that officers had been transferred 44 times over the last two years, creating uncertainty in the administration.
Referring to the alleged phone-tapping controversy during the previous BRS regime, he claimed that opposition leaders, journalists and others had been subjected to surveillance.
Kishan Reddy also claimed that cybercrime cases in Telangana had increased from 5,024 in 2020 to 27,230 in 2024, an increase of about 440 per cent, and questioned why the registration of a case relating to alleged objectionable remarks against the Prime Minister had become controversial.
He asserted that no social media platform or multinational company was above the Constitution of India and called for strict action against organisations found violating the law or disseminating false information.
Calling for greater civility in public life, the Union Minister said political discourse had deteriorated in recent years and urged political parties to place national interest above partisan considerations.
